Advising fintech client Curve regarding activity in Lithuania

The law firm Ellex Valiunas advised its client – fintech company Curve – on the issuance of an electronic money institution (EMI) license in Lithuania and the relocation of its European dimension activities from Great Britain to Lithuania. The Bank of Lithuania issued such a license for the activities of the company Curve Europe last week.

Our banking and finance practice represented the client before the regulator in all matters of issuing a license and providing payment services from Lithuania. Ieva Dosinaitė, partner and head of the Banking and finance practice, underlines that unique and deep knowledge as well as extensive experience of the team in working with fintech companies helped the client to successfully obtain an EMI license. “Our team is able to see into and understand, within a short time, the commercial and technical structure of even such a unique product as the Curve card. When working with fintech companies, legal knowledge is not enough – a lawyer must have both a deep understanding of this market and a detailed knowledge of how information technology works,” says Ieva Dosinaitė.

Ellex Valiunas’ client Curve is seen in the market as a future unicorn that has created the unique Curve card. This card consolidates multiple payment cards of a customer into one smart card through a mobile application and allows the customer to make payments using only one – Curve card.
